Empowering Motherhood: Malika Sadani’s The Moms Co. Transforms Skincare with Toxin-Free Solutions

Malika Sadani, a former banker turned entrepreneur, founded The Moms Co. in 2016 to address the scarcity of safe, natural skincare for mothers and babies. Now valued at Rs 500 crore after its 2021 acquisition by The Good Glamm Group, the brand has grown from a personal mission into a trusted name across India and beyond, highlighting the rising demand for clean beauty in a health-conscious world.

A Mother’s Mission Sparks a Brand

Malika Datt Sadani, born to an army officer, grew up across India, embracing diverse cultures. After earning an engineering degree from Savitribai Phule Pune University and an MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai, she worked as a center manager at CMS Computers in Delhi. Later, she joined banking but stepped away when pregnant with her first daughter, Myra, becoming a homemaker for six years.

In 2012, while living in London, Malika struggled to find toxin-free products for Myra’s sensitive skin. “I was an obsessive mother who wanted the best for my daughters,” she told SME Futures in an interview. Frustrated by chemical-laden options in India, she identified a gap for safe, natural alternatives, inspiring the creation of The Moms Co.

Founding The Moms Co.: A Commitment to Safety

Launched in June 2016 as Amishi Consumer Technologies Pvt Ltd with Rs 15 lakh bootstrapped capital, The Moms Co. debuted in March 2017. Malika, alongside her husband Mohit Sadani, focused on natural, toxin-free products for prenatal, postnatal, and baby care. “We wanted to create products moms could trust without compromise,” Malika shared with Success India Magazine.

The brand’s portfolio includes skincare, haircare, and wellness items like anti-stretch mark creams, breastfeeding aids, and baby washes, all free from parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances. Certified by Safe Cosmetics Australia and Made Safe, products are dermatologically tested and meet global safety standards across the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.

Rapid Growth and Strategic Acquisition

The Moms Co. saw remarkable growth. From a first-year turnover of Rs 2 lakh, revenue reached Rs 24 lakh in year two and grew three-fold annually, hitting Rs 150 crore by 2021, per Startup IndiaX. By 2025, the brand expanded to over 1,500 retail outlets and a strong online presence via its website and platforms like Amazon.

In 2021, The Good Glamm Group acquired The Moms Co. for Rs 500 crore, a milestone that validated Malika’s vision. The deal, backed by investors like L’Occitane and Ascent Capital, fueled expansion into Southeast Asia and the Middle East, where clean beauty demand is surging.

Leadership and Industry Impact

Malika’s leadership has positioned The Moms Co. as India’s first Australian Certified Toxin-Free brand. Her focus on science-backed, natural formulations has earned trust from millions of parents. “Every product is made with love and without compromise,” she told Founder Magazine. The brand’s expansion into wellness supplements and haircare reflects her understanding of evolving consumer needs.

The acquisition by The Good Glamm Group has amplified its reach, with new markets and product lines planned. Industry observers note that The Moms Co. has set a benchmark in India’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) sector, projected to grow at 20% CAGR, per The Economic Times. Malika’s story highlights the power of women-led startups in reshaping industries traditionally dominated by multinational giants.

Why The Moms Co. Matters

The Moms Co. empowers parents by prioritizing safety and transparency, addressing a critical need in a market once flooded with chemical-heavy products. It creates jobs, supports sustainable sourcing, and champions women’s entrepreneurship. Malika’s journey from a concerned mother to a trailblazer inspires aspiring founders, particularly in India’s booming D2C landscape.

With global expansion underway, The Moms Co. is poised to redefine clean beauty worldwide. As Malika told Success India Magazine, “Our mission is to help moms everywhere make safe, effective choices for their families.” Her story proves that personal purpose can spark industry-wide change.
