Ola Electric Faces Leadership Changes as CTO and CMO Resign Amid Restructuring Efforts

Bengaluru, India – Ola Electric, the prominent electric vehicle (EV) maker, announced the resignation of two key executives, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Suvonil Chatterjee and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Anshul Khandelwal, effective December 27, 2024. Both leaders cited personal reasons in their resignation letters addressed to the company’s management.

In their letters, Khandelwal and Chatterjee expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the company’s remarkable growth and praised Ola Electric’s dynamic team culture. Notably, the company confirmed that neither executive had familial ties to any of Ola Electric’s directors.

The departures come at a time when the company is undergoing a significant restructuring process. Sources close to the company have indicated that internal candidates are likely to take over the responsibilities of the departing executives, as part of a broader organizational overhaul aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and long-term profitability.

Ongoing Restructuring and Workforce Adjustments

Ola Electric, led by CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, has been actively reshaping its internal structure over the past few months. In November 2024, reports surfaced suggesting that the restructuring could impact more than 500 employees, or approximately 12% of its workforce, which currently stands at 4,000. The company’s goal is to streamline operations, cut down on redundant roles, and optimize its cost structure to better align with its ambitious profitability targets.

This restructuring follows a similar exercise undertaken in 2022, ahead of Ola Electric’s initial public offering (IPO) in August 2024. The IPO saw the company’s shares listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), marking a significant milestone in Ola Electric’s journey.

Financial Performance and Expansion

Despite the ongoing restructuring efforts, Ola Electric has posted solid financial results. For the quarter ending June 30, 2024 (Q2 FY25), the company reported a 38.5% year-on-year increase in revenue, reaching Rs 1,240 crore. Deliveries also saw a sharp rise, with a 73.6% increase in the number of units delivered, from 56,813 to 98,619 units compared to the same period in the previous year.

The company’s network expansion has also been impressive, with Ola Electric recently announcing that it had reached a significant milestone of 4,000 stores across India, a dramatic increase from just 800 earlier in the month. This expansion reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to growing its footprint and serving a larger customer base across the country.

As Ola Electric navigates through these leadership changes and restructuring efforts, the company remains focused on sustaining its growth trajectory while ensuring financial stability and operational excellence in an increasingly competitive EV market.
